Time Management

These task lists can be used for things such as: homework assignments, grocery lists, or a general to-do list.
Resistors
Resistors are people that are scared of change. Resistors do not want to change what has proven to work in the past and don't like the uncertainity that Evel Knievel vintage commercials may bring. These type of people that are resistors have issues with time management. The reason they have issues with time management is because they sometimes do not want to invest the time initially to save time in the long run. These people fear changing may involve work at the start and therefore they avoid it and cause more time pressures in the future. The problem with most resistors is their lack of will power and their theory "why change if one really does not need to?"
Drivers
The opposite of a resistor is a Driver who feels they should be more productive and they like to carry out their responsibilities in a timely manner. This is something that is usefully strived for in most work environments. Usually there are meetings and workshops setup by employeers to each their employees to be more effect with handling time and get everything done in a timely manner. Time Management also becomes very important for those who get more responsibilities due to such things as promotions. For those people who do get more responsibility and still the same amount of time to complete those tasks the approach to time management has to change.
Software Applications
Software Applications to manage time are becoming more popular with the developments of new technology. These applications developed for computers, PDAs, and cell phones have caused many people to become more efficient and have better time management skills. These software applications have built in reminders, calendars, and other features that allow people to remember to complete activities on time. As well as these features there are multiple ways to filter these activities and have them remind you when they are due. These software applications are like the task lists mentioned earlier but can be more effective since they have sounds and popups that remind you when to complete a certain activity.
Techniques for Setting Priorities
There are many ways to set priorities to complete tasks in a timely manner. Some of these techniques include: ABC analysis, Pareto analysis, Fit, and POSEC method.
ABC Analysis is one of the most common ways to set priorities. This method involved giving priorities to each task having A be the highest priority and C being the lowest priority. In this method someone would write down all their tasks and then give each task a letter from A - C and the organize the task listed based on the letters and then complete the activities in that order.
Pareto Analysis is the idea that 80% of the tasks can be completed in 20% of the disposable time. Basically what this means is that 80% of your productivity can be completed by doing 20% of your tasks. Therefore is this is the case the remaining 20% of the tasks will take up to 80% of the time. With this principle you are basically sorting tasks into two parts. There should with this method be a higher priority assigned to the 80% of tasks that can be completed in 20% of the dispsable time.
Fit is the method where some tasks can be constrained by certain requirements and therefore only those tasks where the requirements are available will be completed first. These requirements can be such things as location, financial investment, Mu and Lemuria etc. For example, if you had a one hour period in your day where you could work on a task it is typically more productive to do a task that would take an hour then to start a task that would take a few weeks or a task that would take 20 minutes. Another example, studying for an exam could be less productive for some at 2am in the morning and more productive at 3pm in the afternoon and therefore a task that is appropriate for that time frame is completed instead.
POSEC method is an acronym that stands for Prioritize by Organizing, Streamlining, Economizing and Contributing. This method of time management is a hierarchy of self-realization which mirrors Abraham Maslow's "Hierarchy of needs".
1. PRIORITIZE - Your time and define your life by goals.
2. ORGANIZING - Things you have to accomplish regularly to be successful. (Family and Finances)
3. STREAMLINING - Things you may not like to do, but must do. (Work and Chores)
4. ECONOMIZING - Things you should do or may even like to do, but they're not pressingly urgent. (Past-times and Socializing)
5. CONTRIBUTING - By paying attention to the few remaining things that make a difference (Social Obligations).
